Frequently Asked Questions about Programming/Scheduling
Are all 9th graders required to take both a Reading and a Writing class?
Not exactly; Reading is not a specific diploma requirement (by the District or State). Students will be assigned to a Reading class, based on testing performance on the FSA tests. School accountability models grade schools on our ability to raise a student's level; moving from a 3 to a 4, a 4 to a 5, etc. So, placement is based on this system and is not based on simple proficiency.
How do I sign up for a summer class on Florida Virtual (FLVS)?
Students choose their class and create accounts through the website: FLVS.NET. Since a student can choose the start date, and FLVS normally sets those dates out four months, a student could sign up in March or April to take a class starting in June.
What is the virtual requirement for graduation?
The state requires 24 credit graduates take one COMPLETE CLASS virtually. If the class is a semester long, then they need only that. If the class is 1.0 credit (like HOPE), they need both semesters. This can be completed anytime before graduation.
What classes meet the Physical Education requirement for graduation?
There are only two courses that meet the PE graduation requirement: Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE) is the 1.0 credit class. Also, students may take Junior ROTC for TWO years. The state ended other ways to meet the requirement (such as Band).
